Pain on one side of the low back or buttock—worse with sitting, stairs, or rolling in bed—sometimes comes from the sacroiliac (SI) joint, where the spine meets the pelvis. If you are in Houston or Spring Branch and wonder whether SI joint pain is part of your story, TX Spine and Joint can help sort it out in plain language.
The SI joints are small but busy. They transfer load between your upper body and legs. When they become irritated, pain may stay local or refer toward the hip, groin, or thigh—overlapping with hip pain, back pain, or sciatica patterns. That overlap is why a careful exam matters.
At our clinic, SI-related options listed on our pain therapy page include sacroiliac (SI) joint injections and SI radiofrequency when appropriate.
You may benefit from an SI-focused visit if you notice:
This is not a checklist for self-diagnosis. Other structures can feel the same. Dr. Mehta uses history, exam, and imaging (when available) to narrow possibilities.
1. History and exam. We map what aggravates and eases your pain. 2. Discussion of options. Depending on findings, we may suggest activity guidance, therapy, an image-guided SI joint injection, or—if diagnostic steps support it—SI radiofrequency (see radiofrequency ablation). 3. Visit flow for injections. Local anesthesia, image guidance, and clear aftercare instructions. You typically go home the same day. 4. Follow-up. We reassess function—sitting tolerance, walking, sleep—not just a pain score.
SI joints rely on strong, coordinated hips and core. Physical therapy, and when helpful aquatic therapy, can improve stability without overloading an irritated joint. Occupational therapy may address work or daily-task mechanics. Having PT/OT/aqua under one roof makes it easier to time therapy around procedures.
Bring your insurance card, medication list, and imaging if you have it. Coverage for SI injections and radiofrequency varies—ask our staff to check before you schedule a procedure.
